Pheromones are effective pest control agents for a wide variety of pest insects in a wide variety of crops. They manage nuisance insects by predation; however, their communication is based on chemical cues, which prospective prey can pick up and act as chemical warning signals to other problem insects. Consequently, the mere presence of Pheromones may be sufficient to deter nuisance insects from invading ant nests. Even though the research of ant semi chemicals is still in its infancy, evidence for their potential application in pest management is beginning to accumulate.
